Liberal Leader Outlines Vision for Transparency, Accountability, and Community-First Governance in District 2 By-Election

Robert Mitchell, Leader of the Liberal Party and Official Opposition, is setting out a clear plan for how he will govern differently and restore trust in provincial politics.

“This by-election isn’t just about electing a local MLA — it’s about choosing the kind of leadership Islanders deserve,” said Mitchell. “I believe government should serve people openly and honestly, not hide behind closed doors.”

Mitchell pledged to make transparency the cornerstone of his leadership. “Islanders deserve straight answers on health care, cost of living, and how public money is spent,” he said. “When decisions are hidden, people suffer. I will open the books and restore accountability.”

Mitchell outlined a forward-looking agenda rooted in centrist values and practical solutions:

• Transparency as a governing principle

• Responsible fiscal management that protects essential services

• Real action on health care access and cost-of-living pressures

“A Mitchell Liberal government will put Islanders first — not insiders,” he said. “We’ll bring back balance, fairness, and respect for families.”

Mitchell shared that he wants to be a strong representitive for all Islanders. “I chose to run in the first available district because accountability matters,” said Mitchell. “Islanders deserve leadership that earns its seat — not one appointed behind closed doors.”

“I grew up in eastern PEI — these communities shaped who I am,” Mitchell added. “I understand the challenges families face because I’ve lived them. That’s why I’m committed to delivering real results for District 2 and for all Islanders.”

The District 2 by-election will be held on December 8.
