Liberals Deliver Results for Islanders During Spring Legislative Session

Prince Edward Island Liberal Leader Robert Mitchell says the 2026 Spring Sitting of the Legislative Assembly demonstrated what Islanders can expect from a Liberal government: hard work, practical solutions, and a focus on the issues that matter most.

“While this Conservative government spent much of the session dealing with controversies and distractions, our Liberal team remained focused on Islanders,” said Mitchell. “We showed up every day with ideas, solutions, and a commitment to making life better for people across this province.”

The Liberal team introduced four pieces of legislation this session focused on improving public safety, supporting municipalities, increasing transparency, and protecting vulnerable Islanders. Two of those bills successfully passed the Legislature.

Bill 104, the Disclosure to Protect Against Intimate Partner Violence Act, will create a process that allows Islanders to access critical information that could help protect them from intimate partner violence.

Bill 103, amendments to the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, introduced a runaway child provision that will help parents and authorities intervene when young Islanders are in dangerous situations and at risk of harm.

Liberals also put forward two pieces of legislation that were voted down by the Conservatives.

“I was disappointed government rejected our proposals to increase fuel price transparency and provide more certainty for municipalities,” said Mitchell. “Islanders deserve openness, accountability, and a government that works with local communities.”

Throughout the session, Liberals led discussions on healthcare, affordability, housing, school safety, energy, environmental protection, government accountability, and support for PEI’s oyster industry. In addition to legislation, Liberal MLAs successfully advanced several motions calling for expanded youth mental health supports, improved workplace conditions for frontline healthcare workers, stronger protections for adult day programs, and greater support for small farmers and aquaculture operators.

“The contrast was clear,” said Mitchell. “While government was focused inward, we were focused on Islanders. While they were managing controversy, we were bringing forward solutions.”

As the Legislature adjourns for the summer, Mitchell says Liberal MLAs, candidates, and volunteers will continue travelling across Prince Edward Island to listen to Islanders and build a vision based on stability, accountability, and hard work.

“Islanders deserve a government focused on them,” said Mitchell. “We will continue fighting every day to earn the opportunity to deliver that government.”
