Liberal Party of PEI announces October 25 leadership convention 

The Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island will hold its next leadership convention on October 25, 2026, at the Delta Convention Centre in Charlottetown. 

The timeline and initial rules, established by the party’s executive and Table Officers, are intended to provide members and prospective leadership contestants with a clear and transparent process as the party prepares for the 2027 provincial election. 

“The coming leadership race is an opportunity to bring Islanders together around a positive vision for the future,” said Katie Morello, President of the Liberal Party of PEI. “Over the last several years, our party has focused on rebuilding from the ground up, engaging communities across the province, and developing strong policy ideas. This process will help determine who is best positioned to lead that work forward.” 

The following details have been confirmed: 

  • The leadership vote will take place on October 25, 2026. 
  • Members must hold an active Liberal Party of PEI membership by October 13, 2026, to be eligible to vote. 
  • Leadership contestants must raise $12,500 to enter the race and an additional $12,500 during the campaign. Of the second amount, $7,500 is refundable for campaign expenses. 
  • All funds supporting leadership contestant entrance fees and campaigns must comply with the standard contribution practices set out in the Election Expenses Act. Contributions must be received by the PEI Liberal Party and recorded by its Official Agent. 
  • Applications will open on August 6, 2026, and will be subject to a Green Light process. 
  • Contestants must declare their participation by September 4, 2026. 
  • The Leadership Convention Committee will be Chaired by, Matthew Murphy, and consists of Lindsay Docherty, and Madison Ranta. 

VOTER ELIGIBILITY 

To vote, a person must: 

  • Be a current member of the Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island; 
  • Be at least 14 years of age; 
  • Support the purposes of the party; 
  • Be a Canadian citizen and resident of Prince Edward Island; and 
  • Not be a member of another provincial political party in Prince Edward Island.
