Liberal Leader Robert Mitchell to Run in Cornwall–Meadowbank By-Election

CORNWALL, PEI — The Prince Edward Island Liberal Party announced today that Party Leader Robert Mitchell will run as the Liberal candidate in the upcoming District 16: Cornwall–Meadowbank by-election.

Mitchell previously served as an MLA and as a cabinet minister responsible for several senior portfolios. He was elected Leader in October 2025.

“At a time when Islanders are looking for stable, practical leadership, it is important that all leaders be in the Legislature,” said Mitchell. “If elected, I will bring Cornwall–Meadowbank priorities directly into the Assembly every day, including improving access to health care, addressing housing costs, and supporting families and small businesses.”

The party also confirmed that David Mitchell, who announced earlier this month his intention to seek the Liberal nomination in District 16 for the next general election, will serve as co-chair of the by-election campaign.

“I put my name forward because I believe in this district, and I stand by that,” said David Mitchell. “But, our party, and Islanders, need Robert in the Legislature now. I am happy to support Robert and serve as co-chair of his campaign.”

The District 16: Cornwall–Meadowbank by-election will provide residents with an opportunity to choose a representative who will bring experience, stability, and strong leadership to the Legislative Assembly.

“I look forward to meeting residents throughout the district, hearing their ideas, and earning the opportunity to serve them,” concluded Robert Mitchell.
