Dan Kutcher announced today that he has been approved as a leadership candidate for the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party. “I am running to better the lives of people we share this beautiful province with. I am running to change the direction PEI is going in, by listening with intent, engaging with understanding and acting with purpose. And, I am running to give back to the place that has given my family so much.”

He also stepped down as Mayor for the City of Summerside and announced that he will be seeking the nomination for the Liberal Party to represent District 21 in the next Provincial election, regardless of the leadership campaign outcome. Dan's bio is shown below.

Dan Kutcher is a father and husband, politician, lawyer, entrepreneur and volunteer living in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

In 2022, Dan was elected Mayor of the City of Summerside. Establishing a culture of openness and getting things done, Dan worked with Council to deliver change across the city. Under his leadership, Summerside experienced record economic growth and housing development, made long-term investments in core infrastructure, downtown development, parks, public art and recreation, and opened the region’s largest solar farm and grid-scale battery. During this time, the city also advanced its largest road project in decades, began construction of a new fire hall, expanded major events and cultural programming, and delivered four consecutive balanced budgets while reducing its debt-to-revenue ratio by over 20%.

An active Rotarian and former board member with Easter Seals PEI and the Free Store, Dan has also served as President of the Harbourfront Theatre, President of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce, a director with DSI and SRDC, and a volunteer with numerous other community organizations.

Dan is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal and the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his community service. He was also recognized with a Canada Clean50 Award for leadership in fighting climate change.

A graduate of Acadia University and the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, Dan earned his JD with a specialization in Environmental Law. He is a recipient of the James Hendry Memorial Prize for International Environmental Law and holds an International Food Law Certificate from Michigan State University.

Prior to entering politics, Dan practised law with Cox & Palmer. He also established and operated South Central Kitchen & Provisions and has served as a Liberal political advisor and volunteer across Canada for more than 25 years.

Dan and his wife, Dr. April MacPhee, Department Head of Pediatrics at the Prince County Hospital, and their two busy kids, Ayrton and Emilia, are blessed to call Prince Edward Island home.
