Statement from Liberal Leader Robert Mitchell on Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Island EMS in New Brunswick

There are no words that can truly capture the sadness so many Islanders are feeling tonight.

On behalf of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Caucus and our entire Liberal team, I want to offer our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the two Island EMS paramedics who lost their lives, and to the family of the patient who was with them.

When someone chooses a career in emergency medical services, they choose a life of putting others first. They step into difficult situations without knowing what the day will bring, driven by a desire to help their fellow Islanders. That kind of selflessness deserves our deepest gratitude, and today it makes this loss even more difficult.

I am also thinking about their coworkers, the first responders who attended the scene, and everyone across our healthcare system who is grieving alongside them.

Tonight, I hope the families of those we lost find some comfort in knowing that an entire province is mourning with them. We will carry them in our thoughts in the days and weeks ahead.
