Andrea Greenan Announces Bid for Liberal Nomination in District 18: Rustico-Emerald
Registered nurse and long-time community advocate Andrea Greenan today announced that she will seek the Liberal Party nomination in District 18: Rustico-Emerald, pledging to deliver stronger health care, real accountability, and a louder voice for local families.
Born, raised and educated on Prince Edward Island, Andrea has deep roots in the province. She and her husband Clarence raised their two sons, John and David, on PEI and have been proud permanent residents of North Rustico for the past eleven years. As parents of two very active boys, Andrea and Clarence devoted countless hours to school and sporting activities and remain committed community builders. They chose North Rustico as their forever home and value the strong sense of community it provides.
Professionally, Andrea is a proud Registered Nurse. A graduate of the Prince Edward Island School of Nursing and a member of the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives PEI, she has worked with Health PEI for 43 years, caring for thousands of Islanders and their families. She is widely recognized as a strong, unwavering advocate for her patients and for a health care system that works for everyone.
Andrea’s leadership extends well beyond the bedside. She has stood up for registered nurses through her work with the PEI Nurses Union and has been a consistent voice for better health care policy on PEI. She currently serves as Chair of the Gulf Shore Community Health Corporation, a volunteer group that advances community health initiatives, and has volunteered with multiple health-related organizations, including the Kidney Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Andrea has also brought her experience and resolve to municipal government as a member of the North Rustico Town Council. Through her time on Council and as a permanent resident of the community, she understands first-hand the pressures facing District 18 residents.
“The status quo is not good enough,” said Greenan. “People in Rustico-Emerald are waiting too long for care, struggling to find housing, and worried about the future of our schools and our primary industries. Government must do better, and I am ready to hold it to account. Islanders deserve a representative who will speak plainly, push hard, and deliver results.”
Andrea is making accountability a central pillar of her campaign.
“Taxpayers deserve clear answers on how their money is spent and why decisions are made,” she added. “Fiscal responsibility and full transparency in government decision-making are non-negotiable. I will insist on both.”
Andrea’s priorities will include:
- Improving access to quality health care and mental health services for residents of District 18
- Strengthening the public education system and opportunities for young people
- Increasing access to affordable and appropriate housing
- Standing up for primary industries including fishing, farming and tourism
- Strengthening community infrastructure and local services
- Demanding greater accountability, including fiscal responsibility and transparency in government decision-making
Andrea chose to put her name forward as the Liberal candidate for District 18 because she believes strong, practical leadership is urgently needed. “I am not running to sit on the sidelines,” Greenan said. “I am running to get to work. I will listen, I will ask tough questions, and I will work with community experts, civil servants and residents until we see real progress. District 18 should be the best place to live on PEI, and I intend to fight for that every day.”
