Mitchell Says Cornwall–Meadowbank By-Election is a Chance to Ask the Questions Islanders Are Already Asking
PEI Liberal Leader and District 16 Cornwall–Meadowbank candidate Robert Mitchell says the upcoming by-election is an opportunity for Islanders to demand answers to the questions they are already asking about the direction of the province.
Mitchell said that in conversations with residents across Cornwall–Meadowbank, the same concerns continue to surface: access to health care, affordability, housing, government priorities and the future facing Island families.
"People want to know why more than 35,000 Islanders are still waiting for a family doctor or nurse practitioner," said Mitchell. "They want to know why emergency room wait times continue to grow, why groceries, rent, fuel and electricity cost more, and why life seems to be getting harder for so many families."
Mitchell said Islanders are also asking what the government's plan is to help young people build their futures on Prince Edward Island, why provincial debt continues to climb, why electricity rebates have disappeared while power bills continue to rise, and why support for early childhood education and families has been reduced.
"These are fair questions, and Islanders deserve honest answers," he said. "This by-election is an opportunity to hold government accountable and to send a clear message about the kind of leadership they want moving forward."
Mitchell, a former MLA, Cabinet Minister, small business owner and community volunteer, said experience matters at a time when Islanders are looking for practical solutions rather than excuses.
"I've spent my career working with Islanders, solving problems and bringing people together," he said. "If elected, I'll be a strong voice for Cornwall–Meadowbank and ensure the concerns of residents are heard loud and clear in the Legislature."
Mitchell said the July 13 by-election is about more than electing a representative for one district.
"It comes down to one question," he said. "Are Islanders satisfied with the direction the province is heading? If not, this is an opportunity to choose experienced leadership and send a message that it's time for a change."
Residents of District 16 Cornwall–Meadowbank will vote on July 13.
