Alan McIsaac was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the provincial general election of 2007 in District 5, Vernon River-Stratford, and was re-elected in both the 2011 and 2015 provincial general elections. Alan McIsaac is currently Minister of Agriculture & Fisheries.
Mr. McIsaac served as a member of Treasury Board. He also served as chair of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Environment, Energy and Forestry and was a member of the Standing Committee on Fisheries, Transportation and Rural Development, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and the Standing Committee on Education and Innovation. After re-election in October 2011, Mr. McIsaac was appointed Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. Mr. McIsaac was vice-chair of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) from 2013 to 2015. He also served as Minister of Transportation & Infrastructure from late 2014 to the spring of 2015.
In addition to his new duties as Minister of Agriculture & Fisheries, Mr. McIsaac chairs the Committee on Priorities and is Government House Leader.
Prior to entering politics, Mr. McIsaac was a dairy farmer and small business operator. He has held many leadership roles in the dairy industry at the provincial, regional, and national levels for over 32 years, including chairing the Provincial Milk Marketing Board and as the Atlantic Canada Director on the Board of Holstein Canada. He also served on the executive of the Prince Edward Island Federation of Agriculture.
Alan has been very active in his church and his community. He has coached hockey and baseball and served on the board of directors of the local Fire Department. He has also served on the Home and School Association at Glen Stewart and Charlottetown Rural High Schools.
He and his wife Joanne reside in Mermaid. They have four sons, Andrew (Martine), Joshua (Faith), Stephen and Michael (Emily).
